Các bạn chắc hẳn cũng nhớ đến một ca khúc nổi tiếng “Love Story” được rất nhiều người dịch sang lời Việt như “Chuyện Tình” (Phạm Duy), “Chuyện Tình Đơn Phương” (Khánh Băng (?).

Các bạn đọc được nguyên bản tiếng Anh chắc cũng không quên mẫu đối thọai ngắn ngủi giữa Oliver và Jennifer, khi gặp nhau lần đầu tiên:

Oliver said, “What the hell makes you so smart and me so stupid?”
“I wouldn’t go for coffee with you?”
“Listen! I wouldn’t ask you.”
“That.” she said “Is what makes you so stupid.”

(Cô thông minh chỗ nào. Tôi ngốc chỗ nào? – Tôi hỏi vặn.
- Thông minh ở chỗ là tôi sẽ không nhận lời đi uống cà phê với anh.
- Ê này. Tôi đâu có thèm mời cô đâu.
- Ấy đấy! Anh ngốc cái chỗ ấy đấy?)

Tôi cũng giống như Oliver đâu có chịu làm chàng ngốc . Không những mời nàng đi uống nước, cuối cùng tôi cũng mời được nàng lên xe hoa . Thế nhưng bà xã, dĩ nhiên nàng giờ đây là bà xã, vẫn cứ khăng khăng ấy là chỗ tôi ngốc nghếch hơn bao giờ hết và bả thì rất thông minh (?) Bây giờ vẫn chưa hiểu bả nói cái gì . Đàn bà khó hiểu thật.

Tuy nhiên câu nói bất hủ đã làm cho tác phẩm này trở nên bất tử có lẽ là:

“Love means you’ll never have to say you’re sorry”.
Yêu có nghĩa là không bao giờ phải nói lời ân hận.

Xin tặng “Chuyện Tình” cho các bạn đã, đang hay sẽ bước vào con đường tình yêu. Và không có ai phải nói … “Sorry”.

Love Story is a 1970 romantic drama film written by Erich Segal coordinated with his 1970 best-selling novel. It was directed by Arthur Hiller. The film, well-known as a tear-jerking tragedy, is considered one of the most romantic of all time by the American Film Institute (#9 on the list), and was followed by a sequel, Oliver’s Story in 1978. Love Story starred Ali MacGraw and Ryan O’Neal and also marked the film debut of a then-unknown Tommy Lee Jones, who played a minor role in the film.
