DU Meter: Quản lý dung lượng, đo tốc độ đường truyền internet

Khi sử dụng đường truyền ADSL hay dial-up, chúng ta thường muốn biết chính xác dung lượng tải về (download), tải lên (upload), thời gian đã sử dụng trong ngày, tuần hay tháng, cũng như tốc độ của đường truyền. Một trong những giải pháp cho vấn đề trên là chương trình nhỏ gọn DU Meter của Hagel Technologies. Đây là chương trình dễ sử dụng, tương thích Windows 98, NT 4.0, Windows 2000 và XP. Cấu hình chuẩn Pentium II, Ram 128MB. Bạn có thể tải về dùng thử từ địa chỉ http://dl.hageltech.com/DUMeter-Install.exe hay tìm mua ở các cửa hàng vi tính. Sau khi tải về tập tin DuMeter – Install.exe dung lượng 924 Kb, bạn tiến hành cài đặt. Cài đặt xong bạn sẽ thấy một biểu tượng nhỏ xuất hiện tại khay hệ thống (System tray), click nút phải chuột – một Pop-up menu sẽ xuất hiện gồm các phần: - Meter cho bạn biết tốc độ đường truyền hiện thời khi bạn duyệt web hay download, upload dữ liệu. Bạn có thể cho mục này ẩn, hiện trong phần Minimize Idle When Option. - Manual Hide cho ẩn hiện cửa sổ chính của chương trình bằng tay (tắt chức năng tự động). - Options dùng để mở hộp Option dialog. Trong mục này bạn có thể chọn lựa cách thức hiển thị của chương trình, loại đường truyền của bạn (ADSL, dial-up hay cả hai), đơn vị đo (Kb/sec hay Kbps). Mục Alerts and reports giúp bạn thiết lập tự động cảnh báo khi bạn dùng quá dung lượng mà bạn đã quy định sử dụng trong tuần hoặc trong 1 tháng. Ví dụ bạn định xài 1Gb/tháng, nếu bạn xài hơn số này chương trình sẽ báo cho bạn biết… - Totals: Mục này liệt kê tất cả các thông tin về dung lượng hay thời gian đã sử dụng của bạn trong ngày, tuần và tháng. Bạn cũng có thể xuất (Export) các thông tin này ra dưới dạng file Exel (XSL), MS word (RTF), HTLM, Plain text (TXT)… (ảnh). - New stopwatch: Chức năng này giúp bạn đo tốc độ đường truyền trong khoảng thời gian mà bạn ấn định. - Help: Chỉ cho bạn cách sử dụng chương trình. - About: Giới thiệu về chương trình. - Exit: Dùng khi bạn không muốn sử dụng chương trình nữa. Đây là một chương trình hay, dễ sử dụng và ổn định. Với các chức năng trên, bạn có thể quản lý tất cả các thông tin sử dụng của mình mà không cần vào trang web của nhà cung cấp dịch vụ internet.

‘DU Meter’ is a tool for monitoring the bandwidth of your Internet connection. If you feel that your Internet speed has decreased lately, you can install this tool. It provides real-time information about the current transfer speed. The program displays a semi-transparent window containing a graph of your Internet traffic. The download speed is displayed with red and the upload is displayed with green. These colors can be customized to suit your desktop.

The current speed is displayed in kilobytes or kilobits. The information can be displayed as graphs, as numbers, or using both graphs and numbers. DU Meter can be set to start with Windows. The program has logging capabilities, so automatic startup becomes even more useful. If you set the program to start at Windows startup, it will record all your traffic.

The program generates daily, weekly, and monthly reports concerning your transferred data. These reports can be exported using several output formats, including Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Comma Separated Values, and plain text.

Pluses: DU Meter features a special stopwatch. It can be used to measure the data transferred volume over a period. The program is also able to notify the user when certain conditions are met. For example, you can set the program to display a message whenever 5 MB are transferred.

Drawbacks / flaws:

In conclusion: DU Meter is an easy-to-use application with multiple configuration options. It should be used for network traffic monitoring.
